SEVERE HEARTBURN - Stop It

Severe heartburn can hurt and cause so much discomfort, like a burning throat, difficulty swallowing and other life style disturbances, such as lack of sleep.

Heartburn is a common complaint but can get out of control and even cause conditions that are more serious if you don’t take care of it. Children also suffer from this horrible discomfort. Mostly in adults, this condition develops from overweight, too much alcohol, too much spicey food and eating or drinking at the wrong time. Yes, there is wrong time, like just before going to bed. Eating a hearty meal and then going right to bed is just asking for heartburn. The food hasn’t had time to digest and sits in your stomach longer since the gravity of standing or sitting is not encouraging it to go down. Then throughout the night it keeps coming back.

A more serious condition developing from heartburn is GERD, easier to say than Gastroesophageal reflux disease or also known as acid reflux. This can be a chronic problem that can cause damage to the stomach because of acid regurgitating into the esophagus. It starts mildly sometimes as just heartburn but slowly gets worse. You know you are suffering when you are enjoying that great tasting cup of coffee and your chest starts to burn. Determined not to throw the coffee away, you continue drinking it knowing you will suffer. You might be aware that this could develop into something much more serious and should consider doing more than just carrying around a bottle of pink stuff. Which, by the way can only cause more discomfort. There are herbal cures available that have no side effects.

The most common symptoms of GERD are severe heartburn, having trouble swallowing, pain when swallowing, nausea and chest pain that a lot of people mistake for a heart attack. Other serious symptoms of GERD are; “Reflux esophagitis, causing ulcers near the junction of the stomach and esophagus.

Severe heartburn can become quite serious if you don’t attend to it. Not only is it very uncomfortable but it can cause your insides serious damage, such as ulcers and this in turn can become a very serious condition needing surgery. Severe heartburn can be treated at home with diet and specific herbal medications, (to be discussed in a following article). Changing your diet severely can change your condition from severe to mild, maybe even eliminate it all together.

Bland foods for a while may relieve the symptoms and you could find that your diet alone will completely remove the severe heartburn. If changing your diet and trying herbal medicine, doesn’t help at all, then it is strongly suggested you visit your local physician or health clinic as there could be an underlying condition that would need taking care of.

Severe heartburn might become very debilitating, especially if you dine out a lot, eat on the go, or just don’t bother with a healthy diet. However, you might want to consider changing these unhealty eating habits. It will be all for the better as far as your heartburn condition and overall health is concerned.
